The Fall of Thultanthar

The Netherese Resurgence ended in a literal earth-shattering cataclysm during the climax of the Shadowbane War. The archmage Elminster Aumar, working with agents of the Weave, sabotaged the ancient mythals holding the City of Shade aloft. As the Second Sundering reached its peak and the Shadow Weave failed, the massive floating capital plummeted from the sky.

The city crashed directly onto the elven capital of Myth Drannor. The impact annihilated the Shadovar leadership, destroyed their last great army, and crushed the elven "City of Song" beneath millions of tons of shadow-stone. This event effectively decapitated the Second Empire of Netheril and removed the most dangerous arcane threat to Faerûn, allowing the world to transition into the stable peace of the Present Age.
