The Destruction of Thultanthar & Myth Drannor

The definitive end of the Netherese Resurgence occurred when the Archmage Elminster Aumar manipulated the mythals of the floating city of Thultanthar (Shade) during the climax of the Shadowbane War. As the Weave began to reset under the influence of the Second Sundering, Elminster stripped away the shadow-magic holding the city aloft. The massive enclave plummeted from the sky, crashing directly into the elven capital of Myth Drannor.

The impact was a magical and physical apocalypse for both empires. The leadership of the Shadovar was annihilated in an instant, and the elven "City of Song" was reduced to a radioactive crater of mythic debris. This double-catastrophe removed the two most powerful magical factions from the board, allowing the world to transition into the Present Age without the looming threat of ancient Netheril or the isolationist elven high magic that had defined the previous century.
