The Second Sundering
After nearly a century of magical and geographical displacement, the Overgod Ao decreed that the Era of Upheaval must end. This period was marked by the reappearance of the "Chosen"—mortal champions of the various gods—who worked to resolve ancient conflicts and restore their deities to power. Throughout these five years, the world was literally "Sundered" a second time; the twin worlds of Abeir and Toril, which had been merging during the Spellplague, were finally pulled apart once more.
By the end of 1487 DR, the "Great Reset" was complete. Many deities previously thought dead (including Mystra, Helm, and Lathander) returned to the pantheon, and the geography of Faerûn reverted significantly to its pre-Spellplague state. For the modern adventurer in 1493 DR, the Second Sundering is the reason the world feels "fixed"—it was the divine corrective that ended the blue fires and allowed the Weave to be re-woven into its current, stable form.
