For a century, the souls of those killed by the Spellplague had been "snagged" in the fractured Weave—trapped in a state of eternal, burning torment. As the worlds began to separate, the Raven Queen deployed her Shadar-kai legions to "glean" these fragments.

This was not a rescue in the traditional sense, but a restoration of the natural order. She stripped away the "Blue Fire" corruption, claiming the memories of the victims for her fortress and allowing the purified souls to finally pass into the Fugue Plane for judgment. This act put her in direct conflict with Shar, who sought to dissolve those trapped souls into nothingness. For the Shadar-kai, this was a holy harvest that ensured the Age of Upheaval's trauma would be remembered, but not repeated.
