The Sembian Subversion

Realizing that brute force alone would unite the Sword Coast against them, the Princes of Shade began a decades-long campaign of economic and political infiltration within the merchant nation of Sembia. Through shadow-magic, targeted assassinations, and the manipulation of trade houses, the Netherese effectively turned the wealthiest nation on the Sea of Fallen Stars into a puppet state.

By 1439 DR, this subversion was complete. The Netherese "Ambassadors" were the true power behind the Sembian merchant-lords, providing the Empire with the gold, naval power, and resources needed to launch a global war of conquest. This bloodless takeover proved that the Shadovar were as dangerous in the courtroom as they were on the battlefield.
