The War of the Shadow

Following their expansion into Sembia, the Netherese launched the "War of the Shadow" against the Dalelands, specifically targeting the Standing Stone. This was a war of subversion and darkness; the Shadovar utilized shadow-clones and magical darkness to terrorize the Dalesfolk, seeking to claim the ancient elven crossroads for their own.

The conflict saw the first major organized resistance against Netheril by a coalition of Harpers and local militias. While the Netherese were eventually forced to retreat from the Dales, the war demonstrated their willingness to use "Terror Magic" against civilian populations. It served as a grim preview of the 1484 - The Shadowbane War that would follow over a century later, proving that the Netherese viewed all of Faerûn as their rightful territory.
